This year, the Coram group has directly worked with more than 100,000 children, families and professionals, and benefitted more than one million others through specialist information and advice.
To celebrate the 350th anniversary of the birth of our founder Thomas Coram, the Respected and Protected report was launched, identifying areas for change and how we will realise the charity’s vision that all children have the best possible chance in life.
Key achievements
- Coram’s help and advice lines supported 27,700 telephone callers.
- Coram’s independent adoption agencies were instrumental in 11% of adoptions in England.
- Coram delivered or supported the adoption and fostering services of 10 local authorities.
- Adoption Match secured adopter access to the National Adoption Register and increased direct matches for children waiting by 18%.
- Channel 4’s ‘Finding Me A Family’ documentary portrayed Coram’s work in finding families for children who wait the longest and helped to achieve a remarkable 25% placement rate.
- Coram Centre for Early Permanence launched a new National Quality Mark.
- Coram group directly engaged 6,672 professionals in training.
- The Child Law Advice Service exceeded its expected usage targets, with 1.5 million information pages downloaded by its online visitors.
- Coram Children’s Legal Centre published ‘Rights without Remedies’, which reviewed the consequences of changes to legal aid and made recommendations to ensure that no child is left without access to justice.
- LawStuff, the website that gives free legal information to children and young people received 49,174 visits.
- The Migrant Children’s Project assisted 44,000 web visitors, and 1,271 children in 440 cases.
- 57 young people benefitted 60,000 others through the Help, Advice and Legal Opportunity (HALO) programme.
- ‘Our Lives, Our Care’ examining subjective wellbeing was published by Coram Voice, the largest-ever survey of children and young people in care.
