Working with the National Organisation for Legal Assistance, a Tanzanian NGO, Coram International undertook this study in 2011 along with another on children in conflict with the law in Tanzania.
This study and the related study on children in conflict with the law were initiated by the Tanzanian Ministry for Constitutional and Legal Affairs, in collaboration with UNICEF, in order to inform its strategy for reform of the child justice system, on which Coram International also worked. This research aimed the determine the extent to which children’s right of access to justice is implemented in Tanzania, especially in light of the passing of the Law of the Child Act 2009, involving a thorough desk review and extensive fieldwork in 10 regions of the country.
