Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II 1926 – 2022

Coram is deeply saddened at the news of the passing of Her Majesty The Queen.

Queen Elizabeth II first visited Coram as Princess Elizabeth in 1936 and became Patron of Coram in 1952, thus continuing the long association with the Royal Family since we were granted our Royal Charter in 1739.

Her Majesty visited us many times, including in 2018 to mark the 350th anniversary of the birth of Thomas Coram, and the opening of the Queen Elizabeth II Centre named for her, bringing joy to all who shared the occasion.

Dr Carol Homden, Coram Group CEO, today said: “We are deeply saddened to hear of the death of Her Majesty The Queen and we send our sincere condolences to The King and The Royal Family at this difficult time. We pay tribute to Her Majesty’s remarkable work and contribution over the decades to support children’s causes.

“Coram has longstanding links to the Royal Family and we were honoured that The Queen was our Royal Patron for many years. She took an enduring interest in Coram’s work for children throughout her life from visiting as the young Princess Elizabeth with her grand-mother in 1936 to the opening of the Queen Elizabeth II Centre, named for her, in 2018.

“We treasure the memories of Her Majesty’s meetings with children, staff, former pupils and volunteers and will remember always the joy this brought us all and the inspiration of her dedicated service to all parts of the nation and the Commonwealth.”
