Resignation of education recovery commissioner

Dr Homden said: “With the resignation of Sir Kevan Collins as education recovery commissioner the sector has lost a hugely respected champion for children’s rights at a critical time.

“There is a huge gap between what he and others across the children’s sector are calling for to enable a children-led recovery post-Covid and the funding package the government has announced. On a pupil-by-pupil basis it falls well short of addressing the needs that Coram – along with all those who work with children and young people – has identified over the course of the pandemic.

“Charities, teachers, and think tanks all echo the education recovery commissioner’s view that what the government is offering has fallen short. I urge ministers to look again and make good on their repeated commitment to put children first.”
