Big Adoption Day, organised by the Consortium of Voluntary Adoption Agencies (CVAA), aims to help people to find out more about the adoption process and celebrates the experiences of adoptive families. Currently, there is a national shortage of adopters and events like Big Adoption Day are vital for increasing awareness about adoption and encouraging those considering adoption to come forward.
The theme for 2019’s Big Adoption Day is ‘Adoption Stories’, and adopters and adoptees will be encouraged to share their positive experiences of adoption to show how life changing adoption can be and increase understanding about the process. Coram has been at the forefront of adoption for over 40 years, providing expertise and lifelong support for all of its adoptive families. It delivers adoption services through Coram Ambitious for Adoption – the first Regional Adoption Agency to launch in London, in partnership with three local authorities, Harrow, City of London and Redbridge, as well as through its teams in Cambridgeshire and the East Midlands.
As part of Big Adoption Day, Coram is hosting free adoption information events in London, the East Midlands and Cambridgeshire for those interested in adoption to speak to Coram’s social workers and hear from other adoptive parents about their experiences.
Coram also regularly holds Adoption Activity days, which help adopters meet children who are waiting to be adopted in a prepared, supported, safe and fun environment.
