Coram is delighted that the statue of Thomas Coram is voiced by renowned actor, writer, theatre director and supporter of Coram’s work Simon Callow CBE.
Thomas Coram is a particularly timely addition to Talking Statues, as it is exactly 275 years since the first admission to the Foundling Hospital which took place on the evening of 25 March 1741.
Co-ordinated by Sing London, Talking Statues, which reinvigorates interest in the landmarks around us by giving voice to the stories behind the monuments. There are currently 24 Talking Statues in London, including Sir Isaac Newton, Queen Victoria and Peter Pan, each of whom can be animated online. Actors including Dominic West, Simon Russell Beale and Helen Lederer have taken part in the project to encourage Londoners and tourists alike to stop, look and listen to the history and culture around us.
The statue of Thomas Coram will be enlivened from Tuesday June 21st at Coram’s historic campus in Brunswick Square, Visitors can log into the Talking Statues website for free on their smartphones. Please come along and have a listen.
