For National Adoption Week 2024, join us for an in-person screening of a new short film documenting photographer Philip Sinden’s search for his birth family.
About the event
Coram Society will mark National Adoption Week 2024 with an in-person screening of a new short film, ‘A Portrait of My Parents’. ‘A Portrait of my Parents’ is a poignant, self-filmed documentary that follows photographer Philip Sinden on a deeply personal quest to uncover the missing chapters of his life. Driven by a profound desire to connect with his biological roots, Philip embarks on an emotional and often challenging journey, equipped only with determination and a handheld camera. As he navigates through various cities, the documentary captures the highs and lows, the anticipation, and the uncertainty that accompany his search.
‘A Portrait of my Parents’ is more than just a search for biological connections; it is a heartfelt exploration of self-discovery and identity. The film delves into the universal themes of belonging and the human spirit’s resilience. Through this unfiltered and personal lens, Philip invites the audience to join him on a transformative journey, where the pursuit of one’s roots becomes a powerful and relatable tale. The documentary underscores the profound impact of understanding one’s heritage and the enduring quest for truth and connection.
Following the film, please join us for a discussion on the film’s themes and resonances. We are pleased to be joined by photographer and filmmaker Philip Sinden, and Jeanne Kaniuk, former Head of Coram Adoption and Permanent Families Service.
Please arrive from 6pm for refreshments and conversation, before the film begins at 6.30pm. We anticipate the discussion will finish by 7.45pm.
