About the event

Please join us for an in-person screening of ‘A Portrait of My Parents’, a poignant self-filmed documentary that follows photographer and adult adoptee Philip Sinden as he seeks to uncover the missing chapters of his life. We are pleased to be joined by Philip Sinden himself to discuss the film’s themes and resonances.

Driven by a profound desire to connect with his biological roots, Philip embarks on an emotional and often challenging journey equipped only with determination and a handheld camera. As he navigates through various cities, the documentary captures the highs and lows, the anticipation, and the uncertainty that accompany his search. ‘A Portrait of my Parents’ is more than just a search for biological connections; it is a heartfelt exploration of self-discovery and identity and explores the universal themes of belonging and the human spirit’s resilience. Through this unfiltered and personal lens, Philip invites the audience to join him on a transformative journey where the pursuit of one’s roots becomes a powerful and relatable tale. The documentary underscores the profound impact of understanding one’s heritage and the enduring quest for truth and connection.

Please arrive from 6pm for refreshments and conversation to be seated by 6.30pm. We anticipate the discussion will finish by 8pm. If you wish to bring a friend or family member you are welcome to do so. Please ask them to book a ticket so we remain aware of how many guests are in attendance.

This event is for an adult (18+) audience.

This is a free event, organised and hosted by Adoption UK and Coram and funded by The National Lottery.
