What is Family Harmony?

Family Harmony was a programme developed by the Coram Creative Therapy Team with support from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) in response to research highlighting the harmful impact of conflict on children’s lives. It was a multi-family therapeutic support group designed for parents and caregivers to attend with their children, including those with additional needs and disabilities. Using approaches and techniques from family, music, and art therapy, Family Harmony aimed to help families improve communication and strengthen their relationships, fostering more harmonious home environments for children to thrive in.

Families have found it valuable to come together with others who had similar experiences over 10 sessions, creating art and music in a supportive, therapeutic space. Through these sessions, bonds were strengthened, understanding deepened, and new, creative ways of communicating emerged. The programme has now ended, but following its success, we have now developed a toolkit and training to equip other practitioners with the skills and knowledge needed to facilitate similar groups.

Facilitators

The facilitators of the training will include Edward Bbira (Art Therapist), Madeline Aslan (Music Therapist) and Claire Everest (Infant Mental Health Practitioner). There will be opportunity for discussion and Q&A.
