Rated Outstanding by Ofsted, we provide adoption services for families and children across the capital and the surrounding areas. We also seek to inform national policy and best practice approaches through our work.
Our pioneering approaches over the last 50 years include LGBTQ+ adoption, finding families that meet the needs of children who wait longer such as children with a black heritage and recruiting adopters who provide early permanence initially through fostering for babies and toddlers. In 2019, we became the first voluntary adoption agency to host a Regional Adoption Agency Coram Ambitious for Adoption, in partnership with 9 local authorities across London and Slough, as part of the government’s regionalisation of adoption strategy.
We are regarded as a ‘centre for excellence’ for our child-led approach, our partnerships with local authorities and our excellent post-adoption support. We provide information and advice for potential adopters and lifelong expert support to all our adoptive families. If you are considering adoption, there’s no better place to start your journey.

Considering adoption?
We welcome people from a wide range of backgrounds and walks of life, who are able to reflect and support the needs of the children waiting for adoption. What we’re really looking for is people who have the health and energy to support a child through to adulthood and beyond, and who have the motivation to persevere through difficult times. We have a dedicated, experienced and professional support team who help people prepare to become parents, and are there for them through to their child’s adulthood.
You can take the first step to finding out more about building your family through adoption by attending one of our free information events, which are hosted both in person and online.
Support for professionals
Coram also provide numerous resources and training opportunities for social workers and professionals working with looked after or adopted children. We run CoramBAAF, the UK’s leading membership organisation for professionals dedicated to improving outcomes for children and families. Support for child care practitioners is also available through the Coram Centre for Early Permanence, providing more children in care proceedings with the opportunity to live with their forever family at the earliest possible stage. The Support Gateway can help adoptive families and people with a special guardianship order (SGOs) find the services that will best support them.
