Coram has today announced the appointment of Professor Sir Ivor Crewe as the next President and Chair of the Board of Trustees.
Sir Ivor is widely recognised for his distinguished career as an academic leader and commentator and was knighted in 2006.
Formerly Master of University College, Oxford and Vice Chancellor at the University of Essex, Sir Ivor was the founder and first director of the Institute for Economic and Social Research, and President of the British Academy of Social Sciences.
As a continuing trustee of The Brilliant Club, Sir Ivor has long championed widening access to higher education and is a former chair of the Higher Education Policy Institute.
Sir Ivor said: “I am proud to be appointed to this distinguished role as President of Coram, and excited to support its bold vision for the Coram Institute for Children to drive forward research, policy and practice and build on its outstanding services to make an even bigger difference for the next generation.”

The Thomas Coram Foundation for Children formerly the Foundling Hospital is the first and longest continuing children’s charity established by Thomas Coram in 1739.

Sir Ivor succeeds Sir David Bell who retired as Coram President and Chair of Trustees in June 2024.
