Coram is the birthplace of children’s social care, creating better chances for children and young people – now and forever.
This year we celebrate Coram Voice‘s 50th anniversary as the first and longest continuing charity dedicated to the Voice for the Child in Care. Their first 50 years shows how far we have come and how much more there is to do to ensure their voices are heard in decisions that matter.
Too often the views, experiences and needs of children and young people who need support are overlooked, unaware of their rights and do not know where to turn for help.
Support us today by pledging your own commitment to listening to children and young people and ensuring that all who are dependent upon the care system can get the help they need. Every day, no matter where they live.
"Every day, inspired by the views and experiences of children and young people, we will work tirelessly to ensure their voices are heard in the decisions that matter to them in policy and in practice."
Dr Carol Homden CBE - Coram CEO
"The Coram Voice Board of Trustees and myself will act on the wishes of children and young people in care to underpin the support and services Coram Voice provides and ensure their voices are always heard."
Jenny Coles - Chairperson of Coram Voice Board of Trustees
"In the Voices Improving Care team at Coram Voice we focus on the mantra of 'No voice without action'. I am proud to work in partnership with children and young people and professionals to make this a reality - from supporting our A National Voice ambassadors' Grand Campaign, to working with Bright Spots partners to change children and young people's lives for the better."
Linda Briheim-Crookall - Head of Policy and Practice, Coram Voice
"Congratulations on a critical 50 years of supporting children and young people in and around the care system."
Deborah Maclaren - LoveReading4Kids
"Working towards becoming a Unicef Child Friendly City means making Salford a great place for children and young people to grow up and feel safe, cared for, heard and have quality opportunities to learn, work and play. Continue to promote the voices of young people in shaping the services they use through genuine co-production."
Sayma Khan - Salford City Council
"I am a friend of Rose. She shared her journey with me and I want to be able to help and support the voices of children in care. I know she sits in the youth advisory board and speaks highly of coram voice. The work you do really means a lot and I am pledging to make change."
Chanel Marsden
"I pledge to always listen to the voices of those who have first-hand experience of the care system, and to do all I can to help improve things so that every child and young person gets equal chances to fulfil their full potential."
Ellie Chowns MP
"I pledge to always try to listen and understand the child's voice; to make a conscious effort to co-produce with young people and involve them in policies and strategies that affect them."
Saima Arif - Slough Children First
"The work that Coram has done over the last 50 years to enable children and young people within the care system and for care leavers to have a voice has been vital. It has made a significant difference to the outcomes of many. There is still much to do to ensure that decision-makers at national, regional and local level actively seek out the thoughts and opinions of those who are care experienced to inform their strategic planning and operational activities. Well done Coram - keep up the great work!"
Gina Gardiner - Fatima's UK Campaign
"With best wishes to you all for the future and thanks to Coram."
James Meston
"I'm proud to support the Coram Voice pledge. At NCB we listen to the views of babies, children, young people and the adults that are close to them and they will continue to be at the heart of our work."
Anna Feuchtwang - National Children's Bureau
"I will ensure that what young people with experience of the care system are telling me will be at the forefront of my mind in any discussions or decisions which affect them that I am involved in."
Andrew Ireland - Coram
"As a solicitor within Coram Children's Legal Centre, I pledge to continue supporting children and young people with having their voices heard, to make them aware of their rights, and with securing the support and services they need to live a safe, happy and fulfilling life. Together we can transform lives and create better chances for children."
Kelly Everett - Coram Children's Legal Centre
"If these young people were your own children, you'd say they deserved better from the care system."
Tom Crean
"With all good wishes for your future! May you be resilient and creative. I hope you are able to develop your gifts and skills and to find happiness and security."
Jeanne Kaniuk
"Children and young people in care deserve to feel listened to and supported."
Jo Chadwick
"One hundred years from now it will not matter what car I drove, what house I lived in or what was in my bank account, but the world may be a different place because I was important in the life of a child. It is absolutely vital that individual people like you and me, and organisations like Coram, do all that they can to care about children and to care for children."
Robert Holden - Lambeth Local History Forum
