In 2024, Coram International conducted a meta-synthesis and meta-analysis of existing evidence on the effectiveness of interventions to prevent and reduce rates of child marriage in South Asia.
Mental Well-Being amongst Parents and Carers from Minoritised and Marginalised Ethnic Backgrounds: A Rapid Evidence Review
The review was conducted by Coram alongside an evaluation of the Community-Based Mental Health and Emotional Well-Being Support Pilot funded by the London Mayor’s Violence Reduction Unit (VRU) and the Major’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC). This review is not part of the VRU-funded work and is being published by Coram.
VRU Community Mental Health and Emotional Wellbeing Support Pilot Evaluation
The pilot forming the basis of this report emerged from the Violence Reduction Unit’s (VRU) public health approach to violence, based on evidence that supporting the whole family should be a part of an integrated approach to reducing violence. Young Citizens Evaluation Report
Coram’s Young Citizens programme aims to make a positive impact on the lives of 16-25 year olds from migrant and refugee backgrounds. Approximately 950 Young Citizens Participants attended 114 peer-led workshops between July 2019 and August 2022 which were co-produced and delivered by 63 Young Citizens Trainers (YCT), who used their experience of overcoming challenges when moving to the UK to help their peers.

Evaluation of Tomorrow’s Achievers Coding With Purpose Clubs
We evaluated the pilot of the Coding with Purpose / Cr8 and Code Clubs which took place on Coram Campus, London, between October 2019 and August 2021, using surveys, interviews and written feedback. Our findings are below, set out against the evaluation objectives.
Staying Connected: The views of looked after young people on their contact arrangements
Staying connected explores the views and experiences of children in care shared through the Your Life, Your Care surveys. It analyses over 7,500 responses and 3,000 comments to questions about spending time with their birth parents, brothers and sisters.
The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on care leavers’ well-being (2022)
In this follow-up report to What Makes Life Good (2020), we examined how the views of care leavers in England on their well-being have changed, or not, in light of the pandemic. We compared the pre-pandemic data from 1,804 care leavers aged 16-25 in ‘What Makes Life Good’ to newer data from 2,476 care leavers in 2020 to 2021, since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. This analysis of Coram Voice’s Your Life Beyond Care survey was enabled by funding from the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation.
Evaluation of the use of objects in social work (2022)
We carried out an evaluation of the use of objects in social work, gathering feedback from social workers and practitioners involved in Coram’s ‘objects in social work’ experimental groups. The groups were run by emeritus professor Mark Doel between March 2021 and October 2021 in Sheffield, London and New York. The use of objects in conversations aims to enable social workers, and children and young people themselves, to better understand their life stories and their support needs. We observed the experimental groups and held one-to-one interviews with 11 experimental group attendees and Mark Doel, to hear about their experiences of using objects in social work and of taking part in the groups.
Evaluation of Behaviour Outreach Support Service (2021)
Funded by What Works for Children’s Social Care, Coram carried out a mixed-methods pilot evaluation in academic year 2020/21 of a school-based Family Action intervention , designed and delivered by Family Action, called the Behaviour Outreach Support Service. Our plans for the evaluation were published in 2020. It aimed to help schools improve their support to pupils who display challenging behaviour. BOSS was delivered to 77 pupils aged 5 to 11, who have or have had a social worker, in eight primary schools in York. Our methods were: semi-structured interviews with pupils, parents, carers, teachers, BOSS staff and York council staff, administrative data collection and analysis, case files review, paper diaries completed by pupils, and an online survey for school staff.
Evaluation of Creative Life Story Work (2020)
With our partners Ipsos MORI, Coram is carrying out an evaluation of a Blue Cabin model of Creative Life Story Work. We have published plans for a randomised controlled trial plus process evaluation (interviews and survey), funded by What Works for Children’s Social Care, of the implementation of the programme in Darlington, Gateshead and South Tyneside councils.
What Makes Life Good: Care leavers’ views on their well-being (2020)
For this major report, we analysed responses from 1,804 care leavers in 21 local authorities in England collected between 2017 and 2019 through Coram Voice’s Your Life Beyond Care survey. The study was carried out in collaboration with Coram Voice and the Rees Centre, University of Oxford.
Follow-up evaluation of Family Group Conferences in pre-proceedings (2020)
We followed up a previous evaluation carried out under Round one of the Department for Education’s Children’s Social Care Innovation Programme. We carried out interviews and analysed data to find out what happened next to child outcomes in Wiltshire and Southwark councils, after families received Daybreak Family Group Conferences.
Evaluation of specialist foster care placement project (2020)
As part of the Department for Education Children’s Social Care Innovation Programme, we carried out an evaluation of a project which aimed to use specialist placements and co-produced care planning to allow disabled young people from Hertfordshire and Staffordshire to transfer to local foster care from out of area placements.
Family Group Conferencing at pre-proceedings stage (2019-2022)
Coram is carrying out an evaluation of a type of decision making used in children’s social care in the UK and internationally. The evaluation involves over 20 local authorities in England and is funded by What Works for Children’s Social Care, as part of a Department for Education programme, Supporting Families: Investing In Practice.
The Art of the Possible in Children’s Services: A Coram Manifesto
The report is based on the national innovation survey, distributed to all children’s services providers at the end of 2021, which sought to assess where agencies are finding it possible to achieve positive change and how the CII can facilitate the innovations which can transform the lives of children and young people.

Helping your child to sleep
Sleep difficulties occur in approximately 48-70% of adopted children compared to roughly 25% of the general child population. We have put together this booklet which includes information about why adopted children may be more vulnerable to sleep difficulties and some of the strategies that families have found useful with their child or young person.

Sir Keir Starmer QC MP, the Shadow Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union, has lamented that the government made ‘a political choice’ not to transpose the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights, with its explicit commitment to the fundamental rights of the child, into domestic law under the European Union (Withdrawal) Act 2018. Coram Fostering Service Ofsted report
Coram, the UK's first children's charity has been offering better life chances for children since 1739.
